Initial Test: A Murder Mystery in Photos
My test object, which I placed on a picnic table, was a sequence of photos depicting a murder printed on a thick sheet of 8.5" x 11"
paper with the words "Who Dunnit?" printed in bold underneath. On the back, I provided a website address where one could supposedly
find out the answer to the mystery to see if anyone was actually curious enough. I set up a Yahoo! Geocities site, but did not place
any content on it. My primary interest was in simply tracking the number of visitors through Site Statistics. I also directed my
partner in documenting (with a digital camera) people's reactions to the test object for a period of one hour.
My results:
- Two men, individually, spent a considerable amount of time looking at the paper, and one of them wrote in
Chinese and Spanish all around the white space.
- One visitor (other than myself) viewed the index page of the Geocities web site that I set up.
