Cable Car
A network of cable cars has sprung up around certain mountain villages and cities, providing a
youth-friendly transportation alternative to traversing the rocky terrain far below many
of the stilt-supported houses. Despite the precarious nature of the cable infrastructure,
it is a popular mode of travel among the elderly, ill, and handicapped who are physically
incapable of descending long ladders, and who, ironically, are most afraid of dying too soon.
Most houses have been constructed with two or more docks on their balconies -- to accomodate
both departures and arrivals. Private ownership of individual cable cars has been contested
in numerous instances. Most of the cable cars are communally owned and shared. People who
need to travel long distances by cable car must transfer to another car at a house positioned
somewhere enroute to their destination.
